Following the declaration of independence in 1964, development soon started in the National Parks, particularly in the South Luangwa, Lower Zambezi and Kafue National Parks.

You should be able to answer questions, entertain and inform your clients with a comprehensive familiarity of the grand themes of Zambia's historical, geographical and cultural development.

Radio Operations

We will outline the whole operational procedures and this begins with learning the basic terminology for successful communication and understanding.

Hospitality

8 tutorials — Food preparation & hygiene, cooking and serving meals and drinks are vital components of a memorable safari.

Also covered: Housekeeping, pitching and cleaning tents, bed and room preparation, and general front and back of house and bar duties.

First Aid

4 tutorials — The safety of the clients is the responsibility of the guide; therefore it is also the responsibility of the guide to be well versed in the procedures of first aid.

The most likely medical problems that a guide will encounter in the field are insect bites and stings, dehydration, and minor cuts and wounds. However, a guide should always be prepared to handle larger medical emergencies, like snakebites, heat stroke, larger injuries or wounds and other more serious medical conditions.

Your main concern as a guide in an emergency is to take charge, remain calm and make the person as comfortable as possible by treating their symptoms as best you can and, if required, either getting a doctor to them or them to the doctor as soon as possible.
